China imports Russian king crabs by ship

On the morning of November 21, 2024, the "KAYUM" cargo ship loaded with 52.2 tons of Russian king crabs docked smoothly at Lianyungang New Oriental Container Terminal, marking the first time that Lianyungang Port, as China's first designated port for imported edible aquatic animals, has imported a whole ship of king crabs.

China's Lianyungang Port has the largest temporary storage warehouse, which can accommodate more aquatic animals at the same time. A whole ship of king crabs imported from the Russian Far East can arrive in Lianyungang in just 3 to 4 days, which can not only enrich the local and even surrounding seafood markets, so that residents of the port city and surrounding cities can more conveniently taste wild king crabs in the north, but also can be airlifted to the Yangtze River Delta, the central and eastern regions, and even the first-tier and super first-tier cities across the country.

It is understood that the king crabs carried this time were caught in Russian waters and arrived at Lianyungang Port after 3 days of sea voyage, with a total value of about 15 million yuan.

"Live king crabs have extremely demanding requirements for survival and transportation conditions, and there is a high risk of loss. Under the "zero waiting" service guarantee of border inspection agencies, ships can unload directly into cold chain vehicles after docking, shortening customs clearance time and reducing cargo losses." said Xie Ning, manager of China Jiangsu Fresh Supply Chain Co., Ltd.
