China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP) announced the cold chain logistics operation data for the first three quarters of this year on November 22, 2024. Since the third quarter, fresh agricultural products have entered the peak season for consumption. Coupled with the growth of catering consumption and the promotion of fresh e-commerce, the total amount of cold chain logistics and the total revenue of cold chain logistics have rebounded in the first three quarters of this year.
According to a survey by the Cold Chain Logistics Professional Committee of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the total amount of cold chain logistics in the first three quarters of this year was 6.4 trillion yuan (about 940 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 4.2%. Among them, the third quarter increased by 4.5%, 0.8 percentage points faster than the second quarter.
In terms of revenue, the total revenue of cold chain logistics in the first three quarters was 417.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. Among them, the third quarter increased by 3.7%, 0.5 percentage points faster than the second quarter.
Cui Zhongfu, Vice President and Secretary-General of CFLP: Whether it is from the total logistics amount or the total revenue, it shows a trend of continued recovery and improvement. The main reason is that since the third quarter, agricultural product consumption has entered the peak season, especially the rapid growth of catering consumption. The second is that the e-commerce of fresh food is developing very rapidly. The growth rate of online shopping of fresh food has exceeded double digits, so all of these have driven the rapid growth of cold chain logistics.
In the first three quarters of this year, the national online retail sales of fruits increased by 11.94% year-on-year, among which the growth of fresh fruit was particularly outstanding, reaching 18.23%. Driven by various factors, the overall demand of the cold chain logistics industry has steadily increased, and the market scale has continued to expand. In the first three quarters of this year, the total demand for cold chain logistics was 304 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%.
